Multi-Factor Authentication in Mint
Intuit has introduced security measures designed to help safeguard customers' sensitive data. When you create or sign in to your account you will be asked to verify ownership of the account through multi-factor authentication.

What exactly is multi-factor authentication?
Multi-factor authentication is a two-step verification process that is focused on helping secure access to your account. Multi-factor authentication asks authorized users of an account for information that only they should know and that helps prove ownership of that account.
For example: Think of it as needing a personal identification number to use an ATM card. Both the card and the PIN are needed before money can be withdrawn.
How can I ensure my Mint account is optimized for multi-factor authentication?
All Mint accounts are now protected by multi-factor authentication. When you log in to Mint you may be prompted to authenticate your account. Verifying your email address and adding a mobile phone to your account will make the authentication process easier. You can do both of these things in the Settings section of Mint.com.
- Log in to Mint.com and click on Settings at the top of the page.
- Click on Sign In & Security on the left hand side of the page.
- Look at your Email address. If you have an option to ‘Verify email’ click that link and follow the on-screen instructions. If you see ‘Verfied’ beneath your email address no action is needed.
- You can also add your Phone number to Mint to make it easier to authenticate your account. Look for the Phone section and click Add Phone and follow the on-screen instructions to add and verify your phone number.
Why do I have to take all these steps to get into my account?
As security threats evolve, we have added these security features used to access your account to make sure it’s really you or authorized users. You entrust us to protect sensitive data and we take that seriously. Our customers’ privacy and security is job one and enhancing account security for online products and services containing sensitive financial information is an ongoing part of our efforts.
What precautions should I take?
We strongly recommend that customers take precautions to protect their accounts and data. It is not only important to create strong passwords, but also to never use the same passwords for all of your accounts.
Keeping your information secure is a shared responsibility. Even with Multi-factor authentication in place, you can help prevent unauthorized account access by taking the following steps:
- Never use the same password for your Intuit products that you use for any other online product.
- Don’t share your username and password
- Use unique letters and numbers in your password, -not basic words that can easily be found online or in the dictionary.
- When you receive email notifications, do NOT click on suspicious links. Forward suspicious emails to firstname.lastname@example.org.
